چکیده

Experimental cardiac tamponade was produced in open-chest dogs. Left and right ventricular systolic pressures fell when intrapericardial pressure was increased only a few millimeters of mercury. Negative diastolie transmural pressures of 1 to 6 mm. Hg developed in the left ventricle and negative diastolie transmural pressures of 2 to 8.5 mm. Hg developed in the right ventricle. In some instances the period of right ventricular systolic ejection was greatly abbreviated at higher levels of intrapericardial pressure.

Atrial transmural pressures during experimental pericardial tamponade.

To elucidate the mechanism responsible for the occurrence of negative transmural atrial pressures in pericardial tamponade, saline or air was progressively injected into the pericardial sac. In 14 anesthetized, open-chest dogs, left atrial (LA), left ventricular (LV), and pericardial pressures (PP) were measured with catheter tip manometers. In beating and fibrillated hearts, measurements were ...

The role of the right heart in acute cardiac tamponade in dogs.

Because of anatomic differences between the right and left heart, we hypothesized that the reduction in left ventricular stroke volume during acute cardiac tamponade is the passive result of decreased pulmonary venous return due primarily to right heart compression. To test this hypothesis, two types of experiments were performed in dogs. Group 1: in fresh, potassium-arrested hearts, rightand l...

Hormonal responses to cardiac tamponade: inhibition of release of atrial natriuretic factor despite elevation of atrial pressures.

Atrial distension, rather than change in intra-atrial pressure, has been suggested as a principal mediator of release of atrial natriuretic factor (ANF). During cardiac tamponade, atrial pressures rise whereas transmural pressures and atrial stretch may not be affected. The roles of atrial pressure and atrial distension were investigated in six open-chest dogs subjected to cardiac tamponade and...

The hemodynamic derangement associated with right ventricular diastolic collapse in cardiac tamponade: an experimental echocardiographic study.

Clinical reports indicate that right ventricular diastolic collapse (RVDC) is associated with cardiac tamponade. To assess the hemodynamic abnormalities associated with RVDC, we studied six chronically instrumented conscious dogs (group A) with two-dimensional echocardiography during cardiac tamponade induced by continuous saline infusion into the pericardial space. We recorded cardiac output (...

The role of right ventricular systolic dysfunction and elevated intrapericardial pressure in the genesis of low output in experimental right ventricular infarction.

To elucidate the pathophysiology of severe right ventricular infarction (RVI), isolated RVI was produced in 15 dogs with the pericardium intact or open. After RVI in dogs with the pericardium intact, RV systolic pressure decreased by 27%, aortic pressure by 29% and cardiac output by 34%. RV transmural pressure, RV end-diastolic size and intrapericardial pressure increased, left ventricular tran...
